“Accident reported” is the start of the investigation. It does not tell you whether the event scratched a bumper or affected structure, restraints and sensors. Ask for the repair story in documents, then have an appropriate specialist evaluate the car.

Request the sequence

Get the date, damage description, photographs if available and itemized repair invoices. Ask which business did the work and whether later problems were addressed. A seller may not have every record; that limitation should remain part of the decision rather than being replaced with a confident summary.

Match paperwork to observable evidence

Have the inspector compare repaired areas, panel alignment, paint and accessible structure with the documented work. Look for water intrusion, uneven tire wear or warning lights that require further investigation. None of those signs alone proves the accident caused a current problem.

Include restraint and assistance systems

Ask the shop what it can establish about airbags, belts, cameras and sensors relevant to the repair. Request calibration or replacement records where the repair procedure calls for them. A dashboard without a warning does not by itself document correct repair of every system.

Drive it after the static assessment

Use a permitted, safe route that allows ordinary braking, turning and cruising. Report pulling, vibration, unusual noise or electrical problems to the inspector. Do not perform emergency maneuvers to demonstrate a concern; a qualified shop can choose appropriate diagnostic methods.

Compare the documented outcome

An accident history can affect your willingness to pay even when repairs are satisfactory. Compare inspection findings, insurance terms and likely resale questions alongside the price. If the work cannot be explained or assessed, choosing another example is a reasonable response to uncertainty, not a claim that every repaired car is unusable.
